This is good example of an excellent book which is standing the test of time (it was published in 1994) and has nothing to fear from new entries, and it can still be found at a good price.

It is very difficult to learn how to quilt just by reading a book, and this book is no different from that point of view. It is divided into simple exercises which, if followed properly, help build up your skills gradually, starting from determining the stitch length for straight line quilting, then on to freehand quilting with some relatively easy patterns to practice with, and extras such as using a double needle. There is also some general quilting information and an extra bonus of tables at the back giving information on various types of threads, needles and batting. I found this very useful.

Quilting doesn't come easy to me but the second time I tried freehand quilting on a small wall-hanging I actually received compliments. So thank you Maureen Noble.

This book de-mystifies the skills of Free-motion Machine Quilting. Step by step lessons take the quilter through the different aspects of machine quilting. A must for anyone looking for a sensible, clear and progressive path to machine quilting success.
