Useful book to have March 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm new to crochet and bought this book as it has clear instructions on how to do the basics. The patterns look fun, although I have to agree with the other reviewer that they're not quite as appealing as some other patterns in other amigurumi books. I think this book will be best for beginners such as myself.
Japanese fun for everyone March 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was the second book I bought on amigurumi, the first one being by Tomoko Takamori, and if the first one hadn't been so good I wouldn't have bought this one.
The presentation of this book is quite different.
It begins with instructions on how to work the crochet stitches, how to read patterns and how to design your own characters. The main body of the book is the menagerie itself - 15 different items including bears, magpies, bunny, teddy, panda, monkey and mouse amongst others. Finally the gallery - a section showing the work of other amigurumi craft workers along with one paragraph comments from them with their website addresses so that you can explore more. I didn't find the characters in this book as appealing as the Takamori one, but it's well laid out and probably easier for anyone lacking confidence to understand and move on from. This, plus the gallery is why I gave it 5 and not 4
