Gutted! July 14, 2008 I'm still at a loss as to how people have given this book 5 stars. I've now read the whole series from start to finish and have to say, that the first 4 (possibly 5) are excellent books. Song of Susannah and the Dark Tower have completely ruined what could have been Kings crowning glory. Kings ridiculous sub-plots, pathetic villains and non-emotive deaths for the members of the ka-tet are criminal!
KING! May 31, 2008 Genius in the writing, King knew what he was doing from book 1. The ending is not the doom as everyone sees it.
Do not waste your money May 16, 2008 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
King should cover himself in ashes and hide away in the darkest corner of his dark tower to dare publish such absolute crap.
Just Magic March 24, 2008 I have waited 30 years to read the conclusions to the Gunslinger, and was overwhelmed by the quality of the final episodes. I will re-read when my daughter has finished her re-reading of this amazing story. This deserves 10 stars. A must read!
Same old King faults, he can't write a decent ending December 2, 2007 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Great story, gripping, imaginative, but.....he "sheds" characters along the way, once he's had enough of them they're just discarded. Like in some of his other books, like Secret Window, It, the end is..."Oh well, I can write any old tosh now, they've bought it and enjoyed most of it!" And writing himself into the story? What the heck was that all about? Arrogant and crap.
And poor old Sheemie, to have been built up, left, revisited, then just dumped. Oh dear. And the big baddies...Flagg was Uber-powerful in The Stand, but he meets his end in an obvious trap set by an overgrown tarantula? And how come SK, as "the creator", couldn't sort out things that were threatening the "Tet", but some tongueless retard they find in a cellar, can, including just disposing of the main big bad man?! Utter garbage, but worth reading the first 4 or 5 books.
