great fun for parents and children January 4, 2005 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is a lovely book for children aged from three upwards, although the verse is so nice to listen to that younger children might enjoy it as well. What I like best about it is that the rhythms and sounds are such a pleasure to read aloud, my daughter likes the silly story (about little green-headed people called jumblies who go on a big sea voyage in a sieve), and the illustrations are also lovely. It is nice to read a classic poem which I remember from my own childhood, which is more fun to read than a lot of current children's books and is illustrated as beautifully as most. If you enjoy reading more modern verse books for children such as the Gruffalo, you will almost certainly enjoy this one. Definitely recommended and one you and your child(ren) will come back to again and again without either of you getting bored by it!
Graduate from the Owl and the Pussycat December 4, 2001 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Every child knows the Owl and the Pussycat, but the Jumblies is more fun! The catchy chorus is simple, silly and easy to learn, enabling children to become involved in the book, even before they can read it. The illustrations are beautiful.
