5 out of 5 stars A Warm Helpful Systematic approach   April 4, 2007
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

`English Start' is a warm, helpful systematic approach to learning English for speakers of other languages and their teachers.

Yasmin Esack has put together a straight forward guide, ideal for those who need to master the art of the English vocabulary and students who want to accurately learn to speak, write, understand and communicate easily in English whatever their age. The book follows the UK system of course design and is an ideal resource for those who are teaching English as a foreign language.

`English Start' presents the fundamentals of English grammar in a series of practical real life scenarios with methodical exercises for listening, speaking, writing and reading, to solidify English language skills as they are learned while a balanced stress on the use of correct grammar is balanced by a heavy emphasis on oral communication skills.

Yasmin Esack, bilingual herself, was ideally qualified to resource such a book as she founded the Northern Technical School of Computers and Languages in Trinidad and Tobago, delivering a government approved English Language course. She remained as the Director of Curriculum and Training at the school for the following five years.

`English Start' delivers programmes to foreign clients who need to learn to read, write, speak and listen to English in a short space of time. It provides international certification in an enjoyable manner. Yasmin has successfully taught members of the diplomatic core, ambassadors and military personnel as well as young people an approach reflected in the engaging methods of this book.
