5 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for All Educators   December 22, 2006

This seminal work introduces the science behind the alternative educational method devised by Dr Montessori almost 100 years ago. Dr Stoll Lillard explains how children learn and develop, linking her discussion to current child development theory and research. Dr Lillard's book goes on to demonstrates how modern research supports many of Dr Montessori's own findings, thus validating her educational method and philosophy. Dr Lillard further discusses how this 'scientific method', as Dr Montessori termed it, is applied in Montessori classrooms. The book is thorough and comprehensive, but very accessible and readable. Its success lies in Dr Stoll Lillard's ability to explain what is wrong with education today and how it can be transformed by adopting effective and successful, tried-and-tested Montessori techniques developed as a result of observing children in every continent of the world for the last 100 years. If you think that education needs a new direction, then this book is for you.
