5 out of 5 stars Teaching Tenses   September 15, 2005

This book is very good both for the teacher and the student. I can photocopy explanations for my students because the tenses are explained very clearly and the photocopiable section is easily adapted for use with many activities.
I would recommend this book to TEFL/TESOL students and to ESOL teachers.

5 out of 5 stars A Must for any EFL Teacher   February 7, 2004

This book is a comprehensive analysis of the English tenses. Each tense is carefully outlined with examples and uses. There is also a section about learner difficulties for each of them. Tables and timelines are included throughout.

I recommend this book to any EFL teacher. Using this book it is suddenly easy to prepare lessons where new tenses are introduced. The examples and uses make preparation a piece of cake; the section on difficulties helps you to anticipate potential problems.

I would say this is an essential EFL book.

5 out of 5 stars Teaching tenses without tensing up...   October 19, 2002

This book is excellent. It was the main thing that helped me get through my TEFL course. It explained tenses in a way which was so straight forward, I had no trouble understanding them myself! It also provided excellent suggestions on practical exercises to use with your students. During my course, when it fell to me to teach the second conditional, those exercises proved priceless. All new EFL teachers should have one.

5 out of 5 stars A really good book for TEFL Teachers   September 18, 1999

If only all TEFL books were written as well as this, we would have an easier life. This book is particularly useful for native speakers (Learning English is another) in that it gives clear guidance on the seemingly chaotic rules that the English tense system follows.

For each tense, we are provided with the form and function of the tense, suggested contexts with which to introduce it, and a list of problems that foreign students often have, and means of solving them. The back of the book comprises a large set of photocopiable drawings to elicit tenses from students.

This is the one TEFL book I would not be without.
