Really nice little book June 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful

This book is really interesting. You see, it's essentially for use in primary schools for teachers to use to help teach kids to read. On that function i'm sure it works really well, the book is well-written and with the right age group in mind providing further info on new words and the context they'd be used in at the bottom of the page.
Everything is well-laid out with a page or two of activities at the end of each chapter. And even better, you're really getting value for money - the book's only small, [A5 - 22 pages] but it packs a lot into that space and it even comes with an audiobook version of it all on CD.
Of course though, i'm sure there is equally a large proportion of people buying this simply because they are Kylie fans - i mean, that's why i bought it. And i'm pleased to say the book doesn't dissapoint. Sure, being written with young children in mind, it's unlikely you'll learn anything new about Kylie from it but it's just written in such a cutesy, charming way it's impossible not to enjoy it.
There's also lots of pictures in here which is always a good thing. In terms of content, it comes in 5 chapters. Chapter 1 sets the scene, before going on to detail Kylie's cancer diagnosis and subsequent recovery. Chapter 2 goes back to Kylie's youth, family and her and Dannii's first steps into Australian TV and fame. Chapter 3 talks about the beginnings of Kylie's pop career as well as Jason Donavan while chapter 4 details Kylie's ever changing image over the past 20 years. Lastly, we have chapter 5, bringing us up to date with what Kylie's done since her cancer recovery.
So essentially, a super-streamlined biography of everyone's fave pop princess. As well as the excercises for each chapter, there's also a more general mini-project about fame at the end.
Overall, i'm just really impressed with the quality of production on this package. You've got the aforementioned CD, the pictures are of a high quality and it's really nice to see in the credits at the front that they let Kylie's management read through the book, reviewing it and providing comments and suggestions before it went to press - it just adds an air of officialness to it.
So, on the whole, whether your a teacher buying this for your class or a Kylie fan looking to add this book to your collection, it's most definitely a must-buy!
