A classic read July 6, 2003 13 out of 16 found this review helpful
One of the best books I have ever read (twice!) on the subject of the early days of Alcoholics Anonymous and the growth of the fellowship, Bill W is also a revealing and moving account of one of the most remarkable and influential figures of the 20th century.Bill W's life story is detailed from his early childhood right up to his death in the 1970s, from the first drink up to the height of his active alcoholism. The book goes on to give an account of Bill's role in all the early problems of founding the world's largest recovery fellowship, and the fight he underwent to ensure he left a legacy to future generations of his beloved alcoholics. On completing the book one is left with the feeling of a great insight into the mind and personality of a remarkable man, whose life touched that of so many millions of others, and whose critical part in setting up one of the planet's great institutions will ensure he is remembered for as long as alcoholic drinks are brewed.
