5 out of 5 stars The best 'Horror' book I have ever read!!!   February 19, 2006

I first read this book about 10 years ago as a teenager & loved it! When the film was remade last year, I dragged my fiance to the cinema as quickly as possible to see it. As soon as the book was republished, I bought a copy & read it in one session. It didnt disappoint & was just as good (if not better) as I remembered. I have to admit that when I found out that the story was a hoax, I was bitterly diasappointed as the way the story is written is so believable. A must read for all horror fans!!! Brilliant!!!

5 out of 5 stars Terrifyingly addictive   November 29, 2005

Having watched the original film and the remake that came out this year, I had to get my hands on a copy of this book. Not only had the films wetted my appetite to know more about the events in Amityville, but I wanted to know the real story - and boy am I glad that I went through the trouble to track this book down. Right from the very first page, Anson throws the reader into the thick of things, and within the first couple of chapters the terror that the family experience makes the flesh crawl. What makes this even more impressive is that Anson lets the reader use their imagination a bit, which is more than can be said for most horror writers.
Just when you think that it's not going to get any more scary, and your just starting to think that it won't scare you, BAM! Anson throws in that horrible white figure (trust me, I was scared of that thing!).
So, the bottom line - whether you think this is a true story or not (personally I believe most of what's written here, even if some of it does appear to be a creative liberty) this book is extremely addictive and easily one of the most frightening ever written. You won't realise how much it's scared you until you have finished reading, which won't take very long, since this sure is hard to put down. Don't go thinking that just because the film wasn't scary that this won't be. There are tons of memorably scary moments (most notably the white figure and 'Jodie' the pig friend). Give it a try if you can get hold of a copy.
