5 out of 5 stars Great book   April 10, 2008

I am new to NLP and I found this book to be clearly written, concise and very well structured. It has given me an excellent understanding of how the processes, concepts and tools work. It will take a good amount of commitment to learn the whole book but definitely worth it. I can believe that you won't have to do a course necessarily if you assimilate the book and actively apply the principles.

Ignore the hype of other reviewers I like that other reviewer lost the will to live after the first chapter but forced myself to re-onto chapter 4 and still it was such tough going... way too high level rubbish. as previous reviewer said a quick glance at the first few pages would ahve told me instantly it was NOT FOR ME... definitely not for beginners like myself

What a crashing disappointment this book is. I bought it on the strength of reviews here - and have found to my cost - I should have looked at it in a bookshop first. I was looking for a book that could help me get to understand NLP and to apply it through my work. I intended to read the book 'cover to cover' - but lost the will to read further after the first chapter. Dipping in and out proved no more rewarding. In contrast to the other reviews here, I found the content hard to get to grips with. A mixture of jargon and precepts - mixed in with some ridiculous 'examples' ["Some parts of your physiology will always remain unconscious - the carbon dioxide concentration in the blood..."]. Some of the action plan/exercises made me laugh out loud ["Watch the film The Matrix on video. If you have already seen it, watch it again. If you were the protagonist in the film, would you have taken the blue or red pill? And how do you know you are not in the Matrix 'for real'?"].

I firmly believe that the cause of NLP isn't well served by this book. Do some research before you buy!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book   September 15, 2007

This book is simply the best NLP book on the market and I've read a few. It covers all the basics but continues on to some more advanced techniques. It's easily laid out with good, simple explanations and comprehensive strategies for pretty much every scenario. What I really like though is the quick index, it makes finding the topic you're looking for really easy. If you're interested in NLP and want a reference book that's useful time and time again then this is the book.

Having recently completed a NLP Practitioners course I find this book to be a useful accompaniement. It is clear and easy to read and well set out. The information is presented in chunks, with action plans for the reader to complete in order to use the different techniques. The exercises are easy to follow as are the explanations. I would recommend this book for anyone who is interested in NLP in order to gain an understanding before attending a course. Also for all those who have completed the course and wish to gen up on information and techniques occassionally. You will not be disappointed if you buy this book.
