Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An important, serious and useful book   May 9, 2006

This is a very interesting book indeed, not at all sensationalist, but rather an authoritative, detailed and very well written account of the Vatican's lust for wealth and political power. Looking mainly at the twentieth century, it is a
treasure trove of facts and information, and constitutes a tremendous research tool for those concerned to challenge the Roman Pontiff's pretensions to represent Christ, for those with a more general curiosity about what really goes on behind the scenes at the Vatican, or for those pursuing a serious study of twentieth century politics. For whatever its worth, the author holds a doctorate in philosophy and a master's of divinity in church history, has taught religion and philosophy, has had a number of other books published, and was a consultant for the FBI. He writes with a refreshingly lucid, concise and very easily readable style. Highly recommended.
