5 out of 5 stars First Rate   July 26, 2008
This is an excellent biography of Doris Day. It is thoroughly researched and is probably set to become the definitive biography of this much undervalued star. Fans will obviously love it and if some of her critics can be persuaded to read it then maybe they will change their minds too. It seems to be the moment for a re-evaluation of Day given the number of books that have come out about her recently. From the recent 'considering Doris Day' by Tom Santopiero to the just published 'Reluctant Star' by David Bret. Santopiero's book is a detailed analysis of her career in movies, music and tv. Whilst 'The untold story' is a more personal biography of her life that goes a long way to dispelling some of the myths about her. They make an excellent duo. I haven't read Bret's book yet and must admit I was confused by the fact they have the same cover photo, but I am sure I will get round to it. At the end I found myself thinking that isn't it about time she was given the honorary lifetime Oscar she so deserves!

5 out of 5 stars A MUST-READ!   June 21, 2008

Author David Kaufman has devoted eight years to researching this book, and has interviewed over 100 people, and it shows in spades! No detail is spared in this terrific biography of the great Doris Day, and it is sure to become the book fans have been waiting for, and film historians will refer to for future research. Ms Day, one of the great talents of the 20th Century, and the film world's number one female at the box office to this day, has gotten her due, at last. I believe this tome will position the singer/actress into her rightful place in the history of movies and music. The book, with its dramatic highs and lows, is riveting from start to finish. A must-read for film buffs and Day fans alike!
