5 out of 5 stars fAnything Goes- fantastic!   May 15, 2008
This book had me laughing out loud and crying too. John is very open about his life so far and Carole has done a fantastic job pulling all his memoirs together. He writes from the heart and it shows. The love he has for his family and the sheer determination he has shown in following his dream shines through. His life hasn't all been a bed of roses. I found it a very entertaining and yet emotional read . John is certainly an entertainer in every way.

5 out of 5 stars Candid and very well written   April 20, 2008
He is good and he knows it!!

No, really John Barrowman has been there done that and got more than one T-Shirt in the bargain. He pops up now on the British TV talent contests so much it made me wonder why, or what makes him eligible to stand and judge the contestants? OK, we have all seen him on Torchwood and Dr. Who, and I appreciate he is talented - but how so....

This Autobiography from a reasonably young chap is chock full of fasinating stories about his life from tales of infancy from his family (who are as nuts as he is) to his 'to this day' tales of acting and life for John Barrowman in the 21st Century.

The footnotes that accompany nearly every page are witty and want you to carry on to find out more, as they sometimes tease with promises of enlightenment later in the book.

There were no low points or boring bits to skip in this tale and I read it in 24 hours!!

Oh!! and what qualifies him to be able to judge the contestants on talent shows? Look at the 'time-line' at the back of the book to find out. It blew my socks off.

3 out of 5 stars Mr.Shallow? I don't think so - re-read it some of you   April 6, 2008

I think all the reviews to date have simply voted for or against the man. I think the book is actually more entertaining than the critics state, and less revellatory and angst-wridden than the 5-stars want to see. I think its just a vaguely interesting tale, written honestly and in the main in good humour. Noone can doubt the hardwork and effort that it takes to get all the way from Glasgow to Cardiff via the US and the West End. but in simple, autobiographical terms - it aint up there with the greats. and why should it be - he's a musical theatre leading man who wrote it himself (aided by his sister). nevertheless it IS entertaining and endearing. Its impossible to read this and not like the man and his family. May be in another 10 years, and with a little more depth to all the major areas covered including his west end break and his time on the couch with the good lord, it would rate higher. by the way - buy it for you mum. i guarantee that ALL mums will like it. 5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book, couldnt stop reading it   April 2, 2008

Its a great way to tell your life story, an intimate conversation between friends over a cup of tea and a biccie. Thats exactly what you get from this book and although I have never met the man I ended the book feeling as if we had been sharing tea in his front room. I dont read many biographys as they all tend to be tediously rigid in following time lines but this was the complete opposite. I laughed so hard at some parts I had stitches and tears in my eyes. Roll on act two!

1 out of 5 stars Biggest pile of bull on the market   March 30, 2008

I have never written a review on here before but make an exception in this case simply to say that this book is absolutely awful. It makes the man seem so shallow and pathetic. If he ever reads these reviews, which I am sure he won't because he'll be too busy thinking how wonderful he is, he would be very well advised to take seriously the negative comments before writing the sequel.
