3 out of 5 stars it's a baby name book   April 25, 2006

My cousin was having trouble naming her baby and she asked me for my input, so I bought her this book in an attempt to help her out. She read it and looked through the names etc., all the things you do with a baby name book. When her baby was born, she ended up naming her baby girl using a combination of her and her husband's grandmother's names instead of consulting the book.

Make of that what you will.

As for the book. It's got pages full of names...
...Ok I'll expand. It is split into a girls and boys section, with some names naturally being interchangable. A few are either a bit biblical or old-fashioned, or outlandishly 'modern' sounding (I don't remember if Apple or Suri was in there). You get the meaning and/or origins of each name, which is the most interesting part of the book. It's always nice to know what your name means and where it comes from, then realise you share little or none of it's characteristics.

It says it has 20,001 names in it, so you might just find that one diamond in the rough. And if you don't, look up your own name, you might learn something new.

I wouldn't be naming my dog most of theses names in this book, let alone a baby, I got it for my friend, who does quite like wierd names, but they were too far out even for her.

good for a laugh if your feeling abit down though

Everything it advertises and more. Out of all my baby name books, this is one of three I carry at all times. After all, you never know when you'll need one or that elusive muse will strike.
