Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Balanced Scorecard   September 17, 2007

This book is an excellent starting point as an introduction to this management framework which doesn't assume any prior knowledge of either the balanced scorecard approach or a developed understanding of business or organisational management. Naturally, in business management the model needs to be adapted to your own business needs but this is easily done. Balanced Scorecard in a Week is a great introduction and will encourage you to read further and develop your own approach more widely. Highly recommended if you are in a small starter business or even developing a charity of social enterprise.

2 out of 5 stars Too much simplified   February 17, 2004

Although I agree that things should be kept simple, especially management stuff, this book however simplifies too much. You can easily finish the book in one hour. In the end, I missed real life examples. This book discusses more the approach/process to create a BBSC, lesser the BBSC in itself. It is the same approach as for workshops, meetings or brainstorm projects.

5 out of 5 stars A balanced appraoch to Improving your Business   March 13, 2003
13 out of 17 found this review helpful

This book enabled me to get to move away from the traditional financial measurement point of view when assessing the key idicators of success for your business.

It takes you through a simple step by step appraoch to designing and understanding what the key elements are in your business by using a scorecard.

For example I was able to use the book to produce a Customer Satisfaction Form for my department to measure the impact and client satifaction that we had on our Customers.

It measured not only the Financial contribution we were making to their business also the impact on their Quality, how well we were communicating, level of Innovation and the effectiveness of deploying appropriate resources.

The balanced appraoch still values the financial bottom line but its not the be all and end all. It recognises how to make sure that you don't do this at the expense of everything else.

There are many many more booke in the series and they are of the weight, size amd price to pop in your jacket pocket or handbag.

Excellent as a reference to dip into and great for the busy commuter.

4 out of 5 stars A simple yet effective look at a potentially complex subject   July 24, 2001

This is the sort of book that should be read by somneone wishing to understand the language and concept behind the balanced scorecard. Ideally targetted at individuals who might be in the position of being part of the change environment but not necessarily leading change. This book lacks the weight and depth of other offerings and should not be used as sole material if you are thinking of introducing the BSC into your organisation. As a resource to aid communication as to what it is all about, it will prove invaluable. A useful little book.
