Guide to IT Contracting August 17, 2008 For anyone who has thoughts of becoming an IT contractor, reading this book is essential. Samuel Blankson has set out everything you could possibly want or need to know about this type of work, in a simple, easily understood format. While the financial/tax information relates to the UK, readers from other countries would have no problem translating this information to their own currencies and regulations. Although the book is directed at IT contracting, information such as interview techniques, office politics, and financial concerns, would be extremely useful to those looking for work of any type.

IT Contractors will be confident and competent after reading Blankson's `The Guide to IT Contracting'...it is sure to be a career long reference book.
Guide to IT Contracting August 5, 2008 The guide to IT Contracting is a thorough, easy to read, and informative manual, with over 500 pages and all the necessary steps you would need to know to pursue any IT profession. This guide was really helpful on deciding which profession would best fit me. It goes in to detail over the different professions and advantages and disadvantages of both. It includes the four main steps and even a bonus chapter which involves investing for financial freedom. This is a wonderful book for breaking into the world of IT contracting. I really enjoyed how it emphasized integrity, ethics, and the motivation of a contractor. In addition to just practical advice it provides insight on building relationships with others in the office, contracting ethics, office etiquette, internet use, maternity leave, and many, many more.
An Essential For All IT Professionals July 28, 2008 This is a book that can be used by all not only the It Professional looking for contract work but also employers who are looking to hire It contractors. Though over 500 pages may be a bit daunting it is well worth it and not an overly difficult read. Blankson breaks the subject down into 4 sections and each one is complete and concise.
The first section is Installation and Setup. It is a step by step to those just considering or starting out in contract work. There is nothing the first section leaves out. It talks about the advantages and disadvantages of working as a contractor. This is something that many people don't think about and really need to consider when taking this path.
The second section Maintenance and Fine Tuning goes into great detail on the things an established contractor needs to be aware of. Some of the subjects discussed are the need for an accountant, taxes and your future. It's important that you realize it is like you are running your own business. All those behind the scene things that need done at a business need done with your contracting business
Patching and Training section three is essential on just how you are going to acquire a contracting job. You are marketing yourself to prospective employers and you need to know what they are going to be looking for. What to expect in interviews and how you should present yourself is needed whether you are trying to procure a contracting position or any job for that matter.
Section four Philosophy and Psychology wrap up the book by discussing the personal side of any job not just contracting. Interacting with employers coworkers and other contractors. How you conduct yourself on any job can make the difference whether you are asked to return for another project or not and this section covers many situations that can come up on the job.
Although I do not do contract work in the IT field, I found "The Guide to IT Contracting" to be informative for anyone in the IT field. Many of the tips it gave are just as important in a permanent position as a contracting position. I think this should be a handbook for all IT professionals.
fantastic, a must read for the IT contractor !!! July 21, 2008 The Guide to IT Contracting has it all !!!! It covers every aspect of entering into the profession of IT contracting but goes so much further. Working from the ground upwards, this book covers entry level assistance and advise while building to specific subjects for advanced IT professionals. The author has left no stone unturned, delving into areas that you may not have considered yourself such as money management, interview techniques, selecting an accountant, and much more. It is written in a comprehensive user friendly manner and is also motivating in its positive approach. I also like that Samuel Blankson has the foresight to address topics such as professional ethics and interpersonal skills. How to conduct yourself, negotiate contracts and build your confidence are all equally important subjects when dealing with potential clients. I highly recommend this book as must as a reference guide to IT contractors.
