Baffling! August 22, 2007 After watching Derren Brown you are left think 'how is it done?'. He explains how he manages to do some of the tricks, but with some he leaves you in the blue. The one with Grand Master chess players I thought was particularly clever. He does do some street magic, but this is repeated in all the episodes, I wouldn't say it's boring but does get a little repetitive. Over all very entertaining, and its perfect if like to have something to think about!
Cracking entertainment...but beware faulty commentary.... May 29, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Excellent DVD which nicely showcases Derren's skills. The shows are brilliant, and leave you with plenty of "How the hell did he do that?!?!" moments. Extras are amusing, although I would have liked to have had a bit more behind the scenes footage, and perhaps a slightly longer interview with Derren - the one on the "Inside your Mind" DVD was ace.
To echo the previous reviewer, I too had a faulty disk, which meant I couldn't access the commentary - however, a new disk is currently on its way, so hopefully I will be able to enjoy a bit more of Derren's charming banter. The geezer is seriously talented - buy the DVD and have a look!
FAULTY COMMENTARY February 3, 2007 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
DATE:3/2/2007 I am writing this review as a warning to people buying the dvd after 3rd Feb 2007. I have no complaints about the show or Derren's great perfomance, but twice now I have bought this from amazon.co.uk and had to return it because of a fault with the commentary. The commentary is not there, it is only accessible as subtitles. I have told amazon this and they have been very helpful, but in the meantime, I feel they should have withdrawn this from sale as it seems to be problem with more than one rogue dvd.
Write a good review, yeah? March 16, 2006 6 out of 15 found this review helpful
Derren Brown is quite a phenomenon now and this DVD really is something. He's somewhere between Paul McKenna and Paul Daniels in that he seems to hypnotise people THEN do a magic trick for them. So you'll see him looking into someone's eyes and telling them what he's going to do, before doing some wild card trick or getting them to pick his favourite colour. It can seem like safety first, but in the DVD Derren reveals the secrets of his art. As he's telling a stooge about what he wants them to do he nods in a way which looks like a facial tick and at the same time emphasises certain words and says 'yeah'. I've tried this myself and it definitely works. I can't quite get the lady at the dog track to pay out yet, but I have been able to get free train travel. When the conductor comes up and asks me for my ticket I say 'I'd like a SINGLE to Cambuslang (nod), yeah?'. He completely falls for this and gives me a Cambuslang ticket, but then I actually get off at the stop after Cambuslang! Sweet as a nut, Derren, and great DVD.
Derren Brown - great guy but ok Dvd January 27, 2006 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
After reading the reviews I was expecting some really great extras. However I was very disapointed. This DVD is ok but apart from the TV series - which is great, the extras are very brief and you are left wanting more. The deleted scences dont add anything and again are brief. I love Derren Brown but would have liked longer extras and his latest series on Channel 4 ( after this ) was also a better series- showing more of his potential and wit.So Ok because its Derren but poor marks for the dvd extras. Not a classic, and only really for serious fans ( who have to have all his work )or those who missed the series.
