Amazing typography error in this book August 17, 2008

I am a great fan of Russell Stannard and was very eager to read his book on Relativity in the well known "Very Short Introduction" series printed by Oxford University Press.
I am not very good with maths so if equations have to be used and they are in this book then you would expect them to be printed correctly.
So you can imagine my astonishment when I came across an unfamiliar symbol that first appears in an equation about "Time dilation" on page seven in the section dealing with Special Relativity. It turns out to be a typography error and is a symbol for "Logical or" which makes the equation absolutely incomprehensible, it should really have been a 'Square root' symbol but unless you know your maths and maths symbols then you are going to be baffled.
I asked a very helpful maths teacher in a well known London bookstore if she could make sense of the equation for me but she couldn't.
In the end I had to ask a physicist and he was momentarily bewildered before he realized that it was a typography error.
One would imagine that such a world renown publisher as the OUP would have had a team of proof readers checking these things before going to print? And really this is not just a one off typography error it shows up again and again in the Special Relativity section.
I am sorry that this is not a useful review but the error needs to be pointed out and I hope that when the OUP do correct it they will kindly send me a book replacement.
