5 out of 5 stars Simple but good!   January 2, 2008

I found this book really useful to help me fully understand psychodynamic theroy. I am on a counselling course (counselling studies) and I found the simple laungage used in this book was great for revision and for quoting in essays.

Its not a British edition and it does refer greatly to various American organisations but as the USA is the leader in all things psychological its not a bad thing. Unlike American cookery books which can make me cry with frustration! What is all purpose flour and why can't we have fat free cheese too?

4 out of 5 stars Very good if you never studied psychology and are just curious   October 14, 2006

This is a very good book if you are curious about what psychology is all about and don't want to spend a lot of time reading a lot of books on the subject. It's very basic, aproachable, fun to read, full of examples, and very up-to-date. If you think psychology is about somebody sitting on a chair listening to your problems, then read this book. You'll be surprised how many aplications psychology has, and how it can help you and others in many areas of your life.

Great for the curious.

4 out of 5 stars The Usual Dummies Standard   December 7, 2003
34 out of 35 found this review helpful

This welcome addition to the Dummies series provides a beginner's insight into the complex and sometimes controversial world of psychology. All major topics are adequately covered, and, in categorical terms at least, there's little you would be able to find in a "proper" psychology textbook which isn't at least mentioned in this volume.

Why, then, the lower-than-perfect rating? Because, unlike many of its computing-related counterparts, Psychology for Dummies is almost entirely geared towards the absolute beginner. It brushes the surface without ever delving deep into the wider ranges of this very large field. And I can't blame it, really. However, because of the very nature of the subject, such a book is most suited, and very aptly so in this case, to the abovementioned absolute beginner.

As a book in general, and a "dummies" book in particular, a good buy as a started into the wide world of Psychology.

5 out of 5 stars Good introductory book!!!!!!   April 6, 2003

I have read other dummies books before and they are good books to introduce you into certain subjects. I bought this book because I wanted to get into psychology but I wanted to learn it from the beginning and the book just done that by slowly letting you into all the fundementals of psychology and how to implement it and conduct experiements, it also helps you to learn more about your self and many other things. Its a great introductory book for anyone wanting to learn psychology.
