4 out of 5 stars Excellent value for money!   June 21, 2004

This text follows the four-part approach common to most of the other systems-based preclinical 'Crash Course' titles. Part I covers the development, structure and function of the respiratory system: Part II provides an introduction to clinical assessment. There are some good tables and very useful diagnostic algorithms here. Part III outlines basic respiratory pathology, with integration of important clinical points. Part IV is a self-assessment section, providing a good range of multiple-choice, short-answer and essay questions, with answers.
The text is well summarised, yet sufficiently detailed and easy to understand. Numerous well-drawn diagrams and tables, together with a good index, allow easy access to information. Hints and tips boxes are a good aid for revision and highlight common exam topics.
Overall, excellent, affordable book that is useful to both preclinical students needing introductory clinical knowledge and to clinical students wanting to revise basic sciences.

4 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book   May 20, 2003

This book is a massive help for revision for medicine exams. It explains the concepts in a simple enough way to understand with good diagrams and pictures as well as x ray pictures. The sections in the book are well laid out and very understandable. The self assessment questions at the end are also very well designed and good exam practice. Sometimes, however, the explanations can be a little too oversimplified.

3 out of 5 stars A reasonable book.   July 2, 2000

As a medical student I didn't find this book as helpful as I would have liked. The section on imaging was very useful, but the basic physiology was not well explained. Useful, as a revision guide, but I would suggest using another text book to gain more understanding.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent study guide   October 28, 1999
The book is well designed and illustrated and has made it so much easier for me to complete my respiratory pharmacology course. As a pharmacy undergraduate, the sections on history taking were not relevant to me, but the other sections ocvering anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and pathology were excellent and well presented. The book is small enough to easily take to lectures etc and provides a handy source of reference during teaching activities. The whole series is extremely useful and I would recommend them to any pharmacy undergraduate who needs a book both for revising from and refering to when writing up lecture notes
