5 out of 5 stars Very useful   September 2, 2006

Good old Lonely Planet, it has once again provided all the information I needed to get around on holiday. It's well laid out and easy to find the information you need, and has just about the right level of detail. Everything I needed to know could be found here; where to stay, where to eat, how to get around, how to stay healthy, basic language, what to see and when it was open. Lonely Planet does a good job of catering for everyone, from families to thrill seekers to budget travellers. This book is small enough to carry around and sturdy enough to survive the experience, but contains pretty much everything you need to know. I'd definitely recommend it if you're visiting Slovenia.

3 out of 5 stars The only option   February 16, 2004

As Lonely Planet are the only guidebook series to have produced a guidebook solely on Slovenia, this book unfortunately has the monopoly.
Slovenia is an amazing country and this book portrays that. However, for the areas I visited i found that the practical information was insufficient, especially with regard to hostels and budget travel. If you are intending to travel by train, I would definately recommend a visit to a tourist office in Slovenia for advice.
Although the book was not superb, I would bring it with me ona return trip.

5 out of 5 stars A bible for my first holiday in Slovenia.   April 4, 2003

I spent a lot of money on my holiday to Slovenia (a two centre break with my family - one week in a farmhouse near Bled, the second by the coat in Portoroz). However, it's the ten pounds or so I spent on this book that gave me the most benefits. It helped me to find hidden gems that I'd otherwise have missed. Brilliant.

In fact, after a few days I managed to lose the book. (Some swine picked it up in on a cable car near Lake Bohinj!). I didn't hesitate to phone up Lonely planet and find out where I could get a copy locally. The next day I drove to the capital Ljubljana to buy it once more and consequently rescue my holiday!

3 out of 5 stars Incomplete description of Slovenian regions   October 10, 2002

I red the new edition of this travel guide with curiosity. In the previous editions I really missed the thorough description of the Mura (Slovenian: Prekmurje) region. Given the fact that Slovenia is a very small country and there is enough possibility to include almost every city where are interesting sights. Unfortunately it did not happen in the Mura region, again. For instance the microregion with the Hungarian minority is completely out. The charmly Lendava town with its castle and wine region is completely missing. How reliable could be a guide describing a small country with this mistakes? I strongly advise to the author to travel and discover this area, too. I hope in the next edition he is going to discover this "remote" area in this "big" country.

4 out of 5 stars Slovenia   July 20, 2002

This year will be my 4th visit to Slovenia, the lonely planet guide book will give you all the neccessary details to make your visit even more enjoyable.
The book covers notable calendar events to time your stay to see such events as the cows ball and what to see and do when you get there, from tasting local speciality food, wines and beers to staying in 4 star hotels, local pensions or campsites.
This book is an indispensable aid to discovering the delights of Slovenia.

The book is small enough to fit in your pocket, but full of essential information. If you pack anything pack this book.
