5 out of 5 stars A must read....wonderful stuff   June 16, 2008

The other reviewers (well the ones who awarded 5 stars) have said it all aready. I adored this book as did my husband and I would urge you to buy this. A marvellous, page turning novel. The only downside is when you have finished it...it leaves you wanting so much more. Can't wait for the next offering from this wonderful author.

5 out of 5 stars A real page-turner   June 3, 2008

I heard an interview with Jeffrey Archer about this book and how he was inspired by Dumas's Count of Monte Cristo and so decided to give it a try. I have to admit to have snobbishly avoided Archer's books thinking that they would be rather trashy. How wrong I was, to judge by this book. From the first chapter one is bowled along by the gripping story that's full of surprises. I get the impression that not only did the author use his experiences in prison to add authenticity, but that he's also done quite a bit of research over other details. It's a cracking good read.

I started the book at around 4:30 pm GMT time by 12:30 I was up to page 100. Am I a fast reader? Maybe but this is one amazing book. It is great for any football fan, any legal person e.g. Barrister or the normal person. If anyone whats a good book to get their teeth into read this.

Well done Mr. Archer came up top again!!!

This book is bursting with interest and satisfactions, I loved it. As the other reviewers have already said, it really will keep you up at night. One point I'd like to add to all the other good reviews is that it made me think in a positive way about the character of the author more than previously. I admire the way he finds goodness and kindness in the worst of situations; from the prisoners he introduces you to, their families to their guards. The villains are pantomine in style and all the better for it. Easy to decide who to root for. I fell I know him better now in a good way; in producing this book from the bad times he's been through, he has taken the best from his difficult experience and generously offers it to us for our entertainment. Highly enjoyable, gripping and yes, clever.

Having only read Archers books about his time in prison,I thought I would try this novel and it was a very good read with some great twists to the story.

Highly recommend!
