A thriller on many levels February 25, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Tripwire was my first introduction to Lee Child's work. I guess the best testament to it's impact is that I've now read, and continue to read, his novels. Featuring the ex-MP turned drifter: Jack Reacher, the book features Child's consistant and skillfull ability to blend highbrow whodunnit, action and adventure, and a fair vat of violence, without either losing or patronising his audience. Highly recommended.
Thrilling..Gripping and Unputdownable!! December 14, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I loved this book. I started off with the first of the series and haven't been able to read them quick enough since! There are some really nice twists in this book and if you like fast paced stories then this is definitley for you.
He is as good a writer as Grisham but the content is a lot grittier.
Enjoy!!!
Excellent read September 4, 2006 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Ex military policeman Jack Reacher is working down in the Florida Keys digging swimming pools. When a private detective turns up looking for him, and later is found dead minus his fingertips, Reacher sets out to find out why he was looking for him and who sent him. With a stone cold villain at the centre of this book this is an excellent Jack Reacher Novel with all the twist and turns needed to keep you turning those pages until the final show down. For those that have not read any of Lee Child's books I would recommend starting with The Enemy. The Enemy provides a sound introduction to our hero, Jack Reacher, and allows readers to pick up numerous books after and not necessarily in the order that they were written. They all perform exceedingly well as stand alone pieces. With Tripwire, Lee Child's writing is at its best and leaves you wanting more. Just like the book's tag line states: Men want to be him, women want to be with him.
Near flawless thriller May 9, 2006 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I've read most of Lee Child's thrillers and this is my favourite. The story is compelling, with plenty of twists and mysteries to unravel. The villain is exceptionally threatening. There are plenty of minor characters to identify with, so every reader can think "what would I do if that was happening to me?" I also found Child's tough-guy hero Jack Reacher more rounded and convincing in this book than in eg Killing Floor or Persuader. All in all, a tremendously good read.
Downside: avoid if graphic violence and torture disturb you.
Fantastic March 8, 2006 2 out of 7 found this review helpful
I'm not sure now how I found Lee Child, maybe on the Mobile Library which comes to our Village every two weeks.Lee Child stuns me I think his writing is fabulous and I can't stop reading and listening as I have him on tape from the Library too. I shall not settle until I have listened/read all his books and then I'll be upset waiting for his next one. Who on earth shall I read after Lee?
