5 out of 5 stars They've all gone bonkers!   January 8, 2008

After reading Skin Privilege I couldn't quite get what some of the reviewers were saying....not that I didn't understand...I just didn't agree. Alot of people have come to dislike the character of Lena Adams but to enjoy the whole experience how can you not accept her and actually admit it would not be right without her. She is a very complex character and I thought it was very clever the way Karin Slaughter used her in this way. I accept the ending because it is believable and I can only look forward to what see what happens 3 years after his death (presumably the next book continues from there). Keep it fresh, never go stale.

4 out of 5 stars shocked at ending   December 6, 2007
i enjoy reading karin slaughters books because she brings the characters to life but this one may have ruined her books for me especially if she ever does another series like the grant county ones, after following the characters ups and downs and getting to like them i feel a little let down at the ending and wonder why she did this and was it really neccessary.

3 out of 5 stars Shocking!   November 26, 2007

I waited for the new book in the series to come out because through the series I have grown to love the characters - especially Sara and Jeffrey. I just read Skin Privilege and enjoyed it, except for its ending. I will give the next book a try but I am not sure if I will have the same enthusiasm. I just can't imagine Sara without Jeffrey. I understand that Karin as an author would like to extend the life of the series but taking away a major character the way she did just left me bereft. Good luck with the rest of the series. I just hope she doesn't try to introduce a new male charater to take the place of Jeffrey. That will be unacceptable.

4 out of 5 stars Great Read, Sad End   November 26, 2007
I loved this book but had mixed feeling on the end of it. Again - I wont spoil it for others but Slaughter does make her feeling clear at the start of the bok, why she ends it the way she does. I can undertand it and she is wholly justified in my book as she knows where she can go with a story. More my own sadness really !!

4 out of 5 stars Dark and Fearless   November 4, 2007
This is written in a fearless style that at times is too relentlessly dark. I felt it needed some balancing up with lighter moments - perhaps some of the gritty humour that Stuart McBride can naturally write.

Having said that, this is well written, sends a shiver through you as you read. The shift in view points and time frames gives the plot a sharp focus.

There's so much controversy about the ending. I felt there were clues throughout regarding a possible nasty ending - when it came it was still brutually shocking in the Grant County context. In an author context I find it gutsy that Slaughter brought about this conclusion for a major character
