The masterpiece is finished...What to read next July 11, 2008 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
Yes the Masterpiece is finished and what more can we do but wipe back the tears, take a deep sigh and think: when can I start reading them again. I loved the Deathly Hallows, some people said the ending was 'too well-rounded', but remember the series is essentailly about good and evil and we all know what has to happen - if it hadn't we'd have only complained. JK is imaginitive, humorous and best of all knows all the 'rules' of a good story, so if you've read it: read it again, if you are cutting your own nose off and saying things like "I read the first one and they are poorly written..." Well just stop it (you wre the kind who prenteded not to watch telly in the eighties because it was not intellectual enough and think by hiding your matalan bags we don't know you pop in every once and a while, everything has a place and let it revel there, there is more bucket than of Bouquet about people like you). For those that did love it, get yorself a paperback to take to the poolside on your holidays so the hardback dosn't get confiscated at the airport as a terrorist weapon (you could do a lot of damage with JK's hefty tombe). Below are some other books I would recommend you read when you have finished the Potters and are desperate for more: The Elements of Lore, Volume One of the Books of Lore The Elements of Lore - Volume 1 of The Books of Lore: 1 Truly excellent start to a series that I think wil be just right for those wanting more Potter - a boy finds out the truth about the Elemental magic of Lore, has a fantastic adventure and sets up for an awesome series...very dark in some places and hilarious in others...need I say more. Think second one is due out next year sometime on the website???
The Spook's Apprentice The Spook's Apprentice: No.1 Oooo A little bit scary Delaney starts a fanatstic series, like potter they get better with each book, I am now onto the last one and am already getting cold sweats for the nest.
The Amulet of Samakrand The Amulet of Samarkand (Bartimaeus Trilogy) Funny, funny, funny all three already out so no waiting on the hyp-train
A perfect end. July 10, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This conclusion was perfect for an absolutely phenomenal series - it left no stone unturned and answered all of the questions I wanted answering. What I liked best about this book is how much more adult it is than the others; it is almost as if the text has matured with Harry, and as he has gotten older so have the themes and the writing. In my opinion this is my favourite of the seven books and possibly my all time favourite. I only wish there had been more Hogwarts, there isn't enough Hogwarts in this book!
Fantastic as always July 6, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love all of the Harry Potter stories and the final tale does not dissapoint. However, why does JK Rowling have to conclude the tale with the whole married & with kids cliche? The last few pages could have had Harry & chums doing something far more interesting than "happy ever after" with families! I know it is meant for kids but I'm sure most children's imaginations run far deeper than that!
Harry potter and the deathly hallows July 5, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Harry potter and the deathly hallows is fantastic, every chapter is ten out of ten. When I started reading it I couldn't stop. It is the darkest yet, but in this book all your questions are answered. Sam Age 8

A lot of criticism has been thrown at JK Rowling, but, while some books in the series have been stronger than others, they never fail to grip. The same is true of this final volume (sob!) in the series. There is, as many critics have mentioned, a bit of a lull somewhere in the middle, but you can forgive her for that. All the loose ends are tied up in what is, in the main, a fast paced thriller of a book with a really dark edge to it. I'm a writer myself - my book Lightsleep is a fantasy for children, which you can see on this site, if you're interested - so I know how hard it is to write something with such huge appeal. So well done JK and please write something new soon!
