St Trinian's (2007) July 8, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a devoted, repeated admirer of the superb originals, I found the new film nowhere nearly as good. What is more, the makers seemed to be too scared of political incorrectness to show the beautiful girls at their mini-dressed most sexy best, with too many scenes showing them too close up or too far away to be properly seen. Sorry, but I happen to admire the female form in all its exquisite loveliness and I wondered if the bored or timid film-makers were lovers of the other sex!
As with so many DVDs, the attractive covers rarely match the timidly over-shy contents.
Glorious remake of the original July 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I loved the Ealing originals - and didn't go to see this when it came out because of all the negative press. What absolute tosh! I loved it - and thought it was the original brought bang up to date! It will be a classic of the future. I'm so glad my friend brought it round for a night in.
I'm buying my own copy today!
Surprisingly good......................... July 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Much better than I had expected and I was looking for something really special to follow on after the famous black and white originals, not to mention the absolutely awful "Wildcats of St. Trinians". Rupert Everett was wonderful as the dedicated, horsey, Miss Camilla Fritton and as her dubious brother. Russell Brand was great in a disappointingly small role as Flash Harry. Colin Firth and numerous famous faces provided the zany supporting cast. A bevy of very lovely girls, and a reasonable plot, all added up to a surprising fun film. I think I will watch it again - often!
Woefully unfunny and pointless remake June 20, 2008 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
In this lazy remake of St Trinians the film makers have decided to update it (the St Trinians girls now include 'chavs' and 'goths') for a modern audience, but then completely forgot to include any jokes or any notable humour whatsoever. It's as if the whole film was completely rushed and everyone just wanted to get the whole thing over and done with as quickly as possible.
Most of the attempted jokes are half-hearted at best, and a majority of the humour just falls flat on its face. The only time you think the comedy element might improve is when Russell Brand is on screen, but even he is under par and fails to inject any real laughs.
The film does no justice at all to the St Trinians name and leaves you feeling so underwhelmed you wonder why they even bothered with this remake.

If you are a fan of the old St. Trinian's films DO NOT under any circumstances watch this "remake". To be fair I am over 40 and it was my daughter who wanted to watch it but only because 2 of her friends were actually in the film. It was neither witty nor intelligent, something film makers don't seem to understand how to do any more. Russell Brand is dreadful, needless to say, and most of the humour is lowest common denominator - a dog "shagging" Colin Firth's leg? Even my 6 year old didn't laugh. Get out your old copies of the originals and enjoy.
