Obvious but entertaining... July 1, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
There aren't any surprises and a little way in it is possible to guess just about everything so don't read it if you like to finish and say: 'I never would have guessed that!' Having said it is guessable, it is also strangely convoluted and most certainly some parts of the plot don't really need to be there at all. Unlike other reviewers, I don't find Mosse's style irritating and I don't mind the switching between French, English and Occitan but my French is reasonable and I can imagine anyone without a little French might think they're missing out - truly you aren't! It's just padding and atmosphere.
Other people find Leonie's story more interesting than Meredith's and I agree but neither story is particularly riveting. Characters are a bit stereotypical but the research supporting the novel has been well done and there is a good sense of place. I found the book quite entertaining and think it would be fine on a plane, or train or on the beach.
One of the best books ive ever read! June 18, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
From the moment i picked up Sepulchre i was totally gripped. Its a fantastic read, beautifully written. I really cared for the characters & found i couldent put it down. I read Labyrinth some time ago but it took me a little while to get into that. Sepulchre had me captivated from the 1st page. I cant recommend it highly enough. In fact now ive finished it i feel quite bereft. Buy it you wont be dissappointed.
beautifully written June 17, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I saw the ad for this book on the side of a bus and I went straight to a book shop and bought it. I did not start to read it straight away, but when I started I could not put it down. I found it captivating, full of character and my imagination was let loose. I was grumpy when I did not get the time to read it due to a busy weekend. I have not read Labyrinth, as I was not familiar with Kate Mosse, however i have already bought it and will begin reading it as soon as I finish Sepulchre. A really good read. highly recommended
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm June 10, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am quite surprised that there are people who did'nt like this book, each to their own I suppose. I really enjoyed it, I thought it was a great story, and, like Kate Mosse's last epic Labrinth I found myself caring for the characters and what became of them, like a previous reviewer I enjoyed the past story of Leonie, Anatole and Isolde much more and thought that Victor Constant was a wonderfully dark character. All in all I enjoyed this book greatly. My advice. Give it a try, you might just find it was worth it.
A fantastic read! June 10, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I can't understand how people can be so critical of this book. I thought it was a fantastic read, I had to put my life on hold until I'd finished it. The characters were so real they just leapt off the page (Leonie in particular), and I thought the story was wonderful. It blended beautifully into the past and then the present. The language and description was beautiful. I found it frightening and utterly gripping. Ms Mosse is the best! Labyrinth was good, but Sepulchre is on another level, it is fabulous. I was totally gripped by it from start to finish and now that I've finished it feel bereft and wonder how and when I'll find another book that I can enjoy as much as this one. I can't wait for Kate Mosse's next novel. I loved it.
