Very clear, useful info January 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There are many people who loves Gina Ford and others who can't stand her 'rigid ways'. I had to find out myself and I can say that I loved this book. I thought at the beginning that this would be a more comercial book, with lots of nice pictures and less content, but I was wrong. The book has loads of very useful information and is written in a very clear way. In my opinion, Gina Ford has an amazing knowledge about babies. I'm enjoying every page!.
Comprehensive without being overwhelming July 28, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a practical month-by-month guide that offers just the right amount of detail in an accessible way. With lovely photographs throughout, this book is really easy to dip in and out of and will be especially useful in the early days. Jam packed full of useful tips, this is sure to make life easier!
Excellent! First Class!! July 25, 2007 This is an excellent book for first time mums with little time!! The top tips are particularly helpful as is the easy to read style of writing. The gorgeous pictures helped me to imagine what my little girl is going to look like as the months pass by. I'd recommend this to anyone.
Gina does it again...brilliantly July 25, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Gina's latest book is a beautifully written and illustrated guide to your baby's first year. It contains ideas on encouraging your baby to develop and helpful hints on what your baby should be doing at various stages. It is easily read and the pictures are lovely.
Although you do not have to be a follower of the Contented Little Baby routines to enjoy this book, I did find that it helped to fill in some of the gaps in my knowledge; for example, Gina describes how to settle a baby to sleep, how to swaddle, and how to bath and massage your baby. Great for anyone who has puzzled over the instruction "baby should be massaged and dressed by 6.15" and wondered just how to do that.
Gina passes on her advice on everything from going back to work, to how to teach your child to tidy up toys (if only!), to when to plan the next baby, all in her own practical style. It will no doubt be well read by anyone who owns it, and a great present for a new parent.
A Must Have for all parents... July 25, 2007 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
Is how this book has been described, and I have to agree. It is beautifully written and illustrated, and packed full of information useful to not only first time parents, but to second and third timers too! I already have one pre-schooler and found myself wondering just how useful this book would be with my second due in 6 months time....surely I knew it all right? Wrong! I found myself saying things like "ooohh, so THAT's what that was" and "ah-ha - that's what I need to do when this happens!" Even my husband (yep, he read it too!) "exclaimed aloud" a few times....!
But seriously, this book is for everyone. It does sit side by side quite sweetly with the Contented Little Baby book series', but if you're not a fan of these, or any other routines, then you can take heart and buy this book with confidence, as it really isn't wholly focused on routines at all. Plus, it would make a delightful gift to any parent - mum or dad!
In summary, whether you're a first time parent or a tenth timer, this book will be a welcome addition to your parenting bookshelf, and by the time the twelve months are over, a well thumbed one at that!
Just one more thing, I couldn't possibly review this book without mentioning the babies that are featured in it. They're simply too cute and squishy to forget, and the photography, lighting and illustration is simply, well, stunning!
