5 out of 5 stars A Treasure   July 17, 2008

I love this book. Tolle describes ancient truths and applies them to life in the 21st century in a way that is inspiring and comforting. I took away from this book three simple, yet profound ideas. First and foremost, Tolle believes that we are all connected to each other and that everything we do matters and has an impact on our world. His second idea lies in the power of listening: he suggests that if we can quiet our egos long enough to truly listen, it is possible to feel a sacredness and inner harmony where everything has its perfect place. And lastly, the author speaks of the power of awareness. The moment you notice a pattern of behavior that is no longer working for you, you are a success.

Reading this book reminded me of the writings of two of my favorite authors: Ariel and Shya Kane. In their books Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment, Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: A Book About Instantaneous Transformation and How To Create a Magical Relationship[, the Kanes teach a fun and easy way to live fully and joyously in the moment. Their approach is practical and magical at the same time. If you like Tolle's work you're bound to love the Kane's. All of these books are treasures to be enjoyed

I watched Oprah and was really interested in reading this book. It covers the egos' many faces very well and has very good discussions around the pain body etc., but where it let's itself down is the 'beating up' of the ego without balancing this with guidance and understanding of the person reading the book who has egoic conditioning clouding their view. It preaches to the converted in my view and in doing so, unfortunately, says 'if you don't agreed with me you are wrong'. Precisely what the author claims he is trying not to do.

My recommendation - read chapter 10 first, then the rest of the book. If not, you will start believing you are evil and damned. Better yet, read 'If you're falling - dive by Cheri Huber, it is far more human in its approach to us mere mortals.

5 out of 5 stars Your transformation awaits!   July 7, 2008
The current state of humanity is an outward reflection of the dysfunction that exists within the human mind, The EGO, the fictitious sense of self, the apparent duality, the delusion!

A New Earth will teach you about the mechanics and the structure of the ego in others and how to dissolve your own ego by present moment awareness. Once you have gone beyond your fictitious identity you no longer pollute your body with negative emotion, no longer contaminate those around you with negative energy and go beyond the main characteristics of the ego - fear and want.

You then participate in the unfolding of The New Earth. Essential reading for everyone, your transformation awaits!

5 out of 5 stars One of the most important books in history   June 30, 2008
This book is so good it should be compulsary reading in schools. If every person lived their lives according to the wisdom of this book we would have no wars, no inequality, we'd respect other life forms and our environment, and we'd all be happier.

Jimmy Hendrix said: 'When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.' Those people who crave power are those with the most powerful eogs. If these people become aware thay they are infected with the ego disease they would surely embrace the power of love. In years to come this book will become known as the one that helped cure humanity of the ultimate cancer that is the ego.

Amazing!!!

5 out of 5 stars Raising Consciousness   June 5, 2008

A New Earth is Eckhart Tolle's second book on the power of living in the present moment. Like The Power Of Now, his first book, A New Earth is special to read. Words are powerful carriers of energy, and both of Eckhart's books emanate the love, peace and joy that he obviously experienced while writing these from a place of presence and high level of consciousness.

The book takes its title from a Biblical prophecy that refers to the emergence of a new heaven and a new earth, the deeper meaning of which relates to the transformation of human consciousness and the reflection of this higher level of awareness in the physical world. Although the title has its basis in a Christian teaching, A New Earth is a spiritual book and as such can be read by people of any religion or people of no specific religion. In fact, it is interesting to note that the feedback received from the webcasts done recently by Oprah and Eckhart Tolle has indicated that many people have found that reading the book enabled them to understand the teachings of their religions in far greater depth and to apply them with far greater insight than they had previously had.

While The Power Of Now was written in question and answer format, A New Earth reads more like a traditional book, and it is therefore often the preferred introduction to the topic for many people. It was certainly Oprah's choice for the webcasts that she and Eckhart conducted! Having read both books, I would probably recommend starting with The Power Of Now; however, this really is a personal choice and either will do as a starting point. The important thing is to read at least one of these books, and to reflect on and practice the teachings contained within them. Increasing your awareness and living in the present moment can be a challenging process, particularly when you start, but the rewards are immense.

In addition to going in-depth on subjects such as the ego and the pain-body, A New Earth addresses the topic of conscious creating, particularly in Chapter 10. Although Eckhart never refers to this as The Law Of Attraction, the principles that he discusses provide a spiritual view on the process of creation. If you've ever felt disillusioned by the very materialistic view of The Law Of Attraction, then Eckhart's description of how consciousness creates may be just the antidote that you need!
