useful November 26, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Along with 'From Here To Paternity - The Diary of a Pregnant Man', this book helped me deal with the blizzard of practical and emotional challenges when we were having our baby. The other book in my Top 3 is Anne Deans 'The Pregnancy Bible' which was more detailed about the nitty gritty than The Bloke's Guide. It's worth learning about this stuff, coz when the crucial time comes, you might be required to speak on behalf of your missus when she's otherwise occupied. I read a few other pregnancy books for new dads and new mums - some were too superficial, some were too busy making jokes to be useful. These three always answered our needs.
Finally a book for men! November 13, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this book for my husband when I found out I was expecting our 1st baby. He found it really useful and informative, but highly entertaining at the same time. It answered the types of questions guys have, without all the girlie stuff they don't really need to know.
the truth... September 2, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I read this book a couple of years ago and loved it. I've just bought it for a friend who is going through the experience for the first time and I was surpised by the recent reviews. The book is called `the bloke's guide to pregnancy'. Surely the title spells it out? This isn't a medical journal, it's a pregnancy guide for men to read and understand. I found it helpful, honest and realistic.
If you want the sugar-coated guidebooks read something written by a woman or a doctor. If you want a more realistic viewpoint, read this.
Are you having a baby with a cave man? August 22, 2007 10 out of 14 found this review helpful
Well meant book with a few interesting points in it, but I think you'd be better off getting a more informative publication that both of you could share.
This book quite patronisingly assumes that your bloke is a caveman, with zero sensitivity. If this is the case, and you did find yourself on the Jeremy Kyle show three weeks after meeting, then buy it.
If not, there are far more intelligent publications out there that a 21st Century Father-to-be can enjoy.
Made me laugh! August 11, 2007 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this for my husband but also ended up reading it myself. It does go through a lot of information but not in any detail like you would find in the various pregnancy 'bibles'. I felt it does stereotype the guys a little but I have to say it did make me chuckle a fair bit when I read it - yes I recognised myself in his descriptions of mood swings etc! If you are after a what to do guide this is not for you.
