5 out of 5 stars Superb!   July 7, 2008

I love Jill Mansell and this was by no way a disappointment! This was such a unique story and so well written i couldn't put it down as i was so desperate to find out what happened to Lola next, this made me laugh and also cringe at the situations Lola got herself into! Every Jill Mansell fan must get their hands on this! I'm sure you'll love it!

5 out of 5 stars A magnet of a book Gloucester Reader   June 30, 2008

I got this book for my daughter because I know she is a fan. As I had a lazy afternoon ahead I thought I would read just a few pages to see why she was so keen, usually I read mysteries so this one is new for me.
Once I started I just could not stop until I had finished it all. I can only hope that I did not crease the pages too much before I give it to her. I found myself shaking with laughter so much that it certainly no longer looks pristine.
I must steal some of her past collection to read more and I certainly can't wait for the next.

Jill Mansell never lets me down and to be honest lots of authors have on occasion. I have read all of Jill's books and they do exactly what they say on the tin. They are light, quick and absolutely good fun reads. They make me laugh and I always fall for the characters within the pages. Sometimes a bit of light-hearted escapism is exactly what is called for and Jill delivers it every time.

2 out of 5 stars Not her best work, that's for sure   May 28, 2008

What a shame. I normally love JM's books - I think I've read them all in fact but this one left me rolling my eyes. It was far to formulaic and the main character, Lola, was actually a bit annoying. So much so that I have no idea why Dougie changed his mind at the last minute and decided she was lovable after all.
The premise was good but the sub-plots (Sally, Gabe, Nick) got far more attention than the main story and I think that's the main problem with this book.

Worth a read if you are a JM fan but wait for the paperback. Don't buy it as your first JM book either - it's not a good example at all. Perfect Timing is one of her best.

1 out of 5 stars Was this written by a ghost writer?!   May 13, 2008

I've read all Jill Mansell's books and would have given them all 5 stars but I was really let down by this one. The characters were so weak and the dialogue was amateurish to say the least. Either JM was having a bad few months (or however long it took to write) or someone else has had a hand in the writing of this very dull book. I would have liked to have seen more of Dougie. I ended up not even being able to imagine what he looked like. Sorry, but I can only give it one star - and that is just because I feel sorry for everyone concerned with the book.
